New Dolly

I feel I have been in the "stick horses and butterfly wings" mode for a while now.  As a change of pace I decided to finally use some of the nicky velours that I bought months ago.  This cutie developed, and the kids LOVE her.  Although I feel it still needs a bit of tweaking on the body . . . siblings will probably follow soon!

It's nice to create something else for a change of pace.

Ik voel dat ik al een tijdje in "stokpaarden en vlindervleugels" modus ben.  Het was tijd voor een verandering, en ik besloot om eindelijk eens dat mooie nicky velours te gerbruiken dat ik maanden geleden gekocht had.  Dit schatje onstond en de kinderen zijn dol op haar.  Alhoewel ik vind dat ik nog een beetje moet werken aan de verhoudingen van het lichaam . . . broers en zussen zullen waarschijnlijk snel volgen!

Het doet goed om eens wat anders te maken.

Short Rains

The short rains have arrived in full glory, with precipitation much higher than normal.  There is a fine line between the curse and blessings of the rains. . .

It is also a time to make a change to our Nature Table, keeping it simple and having the kids add treasures to it as they find them.  All items are handmade. . . with Mother Nature from SoftEarthArt, the wooden rainbow from The Enchanted Cupboard, the violet peg doll from The Little Gnome Shop, the other flowers and gnomes, including the Rain Sprite were made by me and my kids over the years.

De korte regens zijn in volle glorie begonnen, met neerslag veel hoger dan normaal.  Het is een fijnen lijn hier die de vloek of de zegen van de regen onderscheidt. . .

Het is ook een tijd om onze seizoenstafel te veranderen, we probeerden het eenvoudig te houden met genoeg plaats voor de schatten die de kinderen vinden deze tijd van het jaar.  Alle dingen zijn hand gemaakt. . . met Moeder Natuur van SoftEarthArt, the houten regenboog van The Enchanted Cupboard, het viooltje van The Little Gnome Shop, en de andere bloemen, kabouters en Regen Elf zijn door mij en de kinderen gemaakt in de afgelopen jaren.

Of Tails and Teeth - part 2

We can't wait any longer for the party on Saturday.  The little one had to wear his new Sabre-Toothed Tiger costume yesterday, way ahead of the party.

It was another re-purposing project as I made it from a women's tunic.  I was planning to make a one-piece costume, but then changed my mind and made pants and a top with a fitting pair of pants and a t-shirt as guidance.  The change was made due to the fact that I had to piece the fabric together, which you hardly notice with this print, and because he can now wear it longer. 

The mask was also a creation on the go, the snout is a little to much wolf-like to me, but the little man is happy.  Here are the before and after pics:

We konden niet langer wachten tot het feestje zaterdag.  Onze kleinste wilde zijn nieuwe Sabeltand Tijger kostuum gisteren al aan.

Het was weer een re-purposing project omdat ik dit kostuum uit een vrouwen tuniek gemaakt heb.  Ik wilde aanvankelijk een soort overall maken, maar heb het toen toch veranderd in een broek en top, met een passende broek en t-shirt als leidraad.  Die verandering vond plaats omdat ik het stof een beetje moest uitstukken (met deze print zie je dat nauwelijks) en omdat hij het dan langer aankan.

Het masker ontstond ook uit de vrije hand.  Ik vind de snuit een beetje te wolf-achtig, maar de kleinste is er erg blij mee.  Hierboven de voor en na foto's.

Everyday - A purple carpet

If you read this blog on a regular basis, you have probably figured out that I like the Jacaranda tree.  The blossoms are now falling leaving a carpet of purple behind like here at the ducks' enclosure at our Waldorf Kindergarten

Als je dit blog regelmatig leest, heb je waarschijnlijk door dat ik de Jacaranda boom erg mooi vind. De bloesems zijn nu aan het vallen en laten een mooi paars tapijt achter, zoals hier bij de eenden op onze Waldorf kleuterschool.

Of Tails and Teeth. . .

Halloween is not traditionally celebrated in our culture, but American friends of ours are hosting a family Halloween party this weekend.  Of all the dress up items that we have, our kids could have selected a few costumes from there, but the little one had just one wish: a sabre tooth tiger. . . Not the first costume one would think of, no tiger-print fabric at the shops, but I found something close enough at a charity shop here.  So, I am up-cycling a women's top to a children's costume.  Here's the work in progress.  I hope to share the final result soon!

Halloween word niet traditioneel gevierd in onze cultuur, maar Amerikaanse vrienden van ons houden dit weekend een groots familie Halloween feest. Van alle verkleed kleren die we hebben, zouden onze kinderen heel wat verschillende kostuums gekozen kunnen hebben.  Maar ja, onze kleinste had maar een wens: een sabeltandtijger. . . Niet het eerste de beste kostuum zou je denken, EN geen tijger-print stof in de winkels.  Maar gelukkig heb ik een stofje gevonden dat voldoet aan de eisen, in vorm van een damestuniek bij een kringloopwinkel hier.  Dus, ik ben damestuniek aan het veranderen in een kinder kostuum.  Hier is het werk in uitvoering. Ik hoop het eindresultaat snel te delen!
