The Samburu Five

A dream came through!  We finally made a trip to the Samburu National Reserve over the long weekend here in Kenya.  It also coincided with the school holidays for the kids, so off on a safari we went.

As I mentioned before, game viewing will never be a boring activity.  While we have spotted the Big Five (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo) many times around the continent, we were new to the Samburu Five: the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, the Somali ostrich, the oryx and the gerenuk.  One by one, special creatures and a time to be once again in awe by nature.

Een droom kwam uit! We maakten eindelijk een reis naar het Samburu National Reserve tijdens het lange weekend hier in Kenia. Het viel ook samen met de schoolvakantie voor de kinderen, dus op een safari gingen we.

Zoals ik al eens eerder zei, safaritochten zijn nooit saai voor ons gezin. Terwijl we de Big Five (olifant, neushoorn, leeuw, luipaard en buffel) vele malen rond het continent hebben gespot, we waren nieuw voor de Samburu Five: de Somalische giraffe, Grevyzebra, de Somalische struisvogel, de oryx en de gerenoek. Eén voor één, speciale wezens en een tijd om opnieuw ontzag te hebben voor de natuur.
